How to start with YouTube as a Business? – Part 1

Namaste friends and freelancers!

All this while I was thinking that I will be writing on YouTube. I wanted to tell you a lot about my YouTube channels; how I am creating those videos, and how I go about planning for a video and publish those. YouTube has been a very big and lucrative source of passive income for last several years. Many people from all over the world have taken to YouTube to share their passion and skills. Many of them have done very well and are earning huge money from YouTube on a monthly basis, as well.

Man Proposes God Disposes!

Before I could plan a complete end to end series on YouTube, I got a request from one of my close friends, who is on the verge of starting his own YouTube channel. He wanted me to suggest him a plan and how he should go about creating his YouTube channel and wanted me to answer a few questions that he has now. I can understand the urgency of this request and hence, I was ready to answer all his queries on by one. However, on the second thought, together we decided that it would be beneficial for all my readers if I can answer these questions directly on my blog, rather than telling him one on one.

So, here I am with a few answers to some frequently asked questions on how to create a YouTube channel, how to run the channel successfully, and earn money through YouTube videos. In this post, I will take a question that he has and try to answer that with as many details as I can. It will be more like a question and answer session. So, without further delay, let's start.

The first question that my friend has is, how to start with YouTube business? The best part of this question is that he has mentioned the word BUSINESS in it. It is very important for us to take YouTube as a business. Unless we understand that whatever we are spending on YouTube is an investment towards our business, we will not be able to route all our resources into it, wholeheartedly. And if we do not route all our resources unreservedly, in terms of money, time and effort, it will be hard for us to be successful on YouTube. So, YouTube is essentially a business. Like in any other business, if you want to be successful, you will need to start with an investment - an investment of your time, your money and the effort that you put in. The first thing that we would need to start a successful business on YouTube is time and effort that we dedicate for RESEARCH. We need to research a lot to find our niche, that we can own, to establish our goals, that we can achieve, and come up with a working plan of action, that will take us beyond!

When I say ‘research,’ I mean completely knowing about YouTube. Before getting into YouTube, we should all understand how YouTube works and how we can make money on YouTube. There are a lot of videos in YouTube itself which can help you to get first-hand information about what YouTube is and how it works. Those videos are created by renowned YouTubers who are working on YouTube for more than decades now. Apart from watching YouTube videos, you can also read blogs like this one, where we can find good insights on YouTube. There are many dedicated YouTube blogs as well. And last but not the least, do not skip YouTube’s own academia. There is an ocean of useful information, tips, and tricks and proven methods on how to grow on YouTube.

For the absolute beginner, my first suggestion would be to research a lot on YouTube. Take YouTube as a business and do whatever it is needed to establish that business. Most of the YouTubers started alone. Eventually, as they grew, they got more people involved in their daily routine and even in the video creation and promotion process. If you are alone as my friend is, I would suggest that you start small, do small tasks one by one, but at the same time, keep your ambitions high. Here are a few heads that you can search online to get started with your research.

So, now that you know that we need to consider YouTube as a complete full-time business, I am going to give you 5 heads in the next post, which you need to research about while you start your YouTube business. These 5 points in order, are to be researched, given a structure and finalized if possible, before starting the creation of the very first video.
